Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize laureate elaborates on renal allograft outcomes

The 2021 Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize laureate made a speech on “Transplantation: A Journey from Yesterday to Tomorrow” at the 8th Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) on October 19, held at Labbafinejad Medical Center in Tehran.

MSTF Media reports:

Mohamed El. Sayegh, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the American University of Beirut from Lebanon, and a 2021 Mustafa Prize laureate from Islamic countries, addressed “Contribution to Improve Renal Allograft Outcomes” during the event.

His research is focused on looking for immunologic tolerance to avoid transplant rejection, he said.

Sayegh is interested in understanding the mechanism of transplant rejection and how to fool the immune system to accept the transplant; a term called immunologic tolerance.

He and his team have even used transgenic animals to study the mechanism of rejection and tolerance.

Sayegh is mostly focused on promoting research at the regional level nowadays.

STEP was launched in 2015 by the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF) as part of its plans to enhance collaboration among scientists.
