Closing ceremony of Int’l Noor school student competition held in Tehran

The closing ceremony of the 3rd round of the international Noor School Student Competition of Mustafa(Pbuh) Science & Technology Foundation (MSTF) was held Thursday (April 26) at Andisheh Hall, Tehran, where winner teams received their awards.

The 3rd round of Noor school student competition has received works from a total number of 2,107 groups comprised of 4,937 school students, from seven countries.  The number of works participated in the competition was 1,675 from which 100 works have succeeded to advance to the final phase and will be awarded at today’s event.

Every round of the competition honors a renowned scientist or scholar of Islamic world. This round was held in commemoration of the prominent Muslim scientist Ibn al-Razzaz al-Jazari.

Badi az-Zaman Abu l-Izz ibn Ismail ibn ar-Razaz al-Jazari (1136– 1206) was a Muslim polymath, born in Algeria. He was a scholar, inventor, mechanical engineer, artisan, artist and mathematician. He is best known for his works on mechanics. In his work titled The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices he described 100 mechanical devices.

Several winner students, their teachers and families, some officials, including chairman of Mustafa Prize policy-making council Sorena Sattari, as well as some foreign guests from Afghanistan’s and Iraq’s embassies attended the event.

The works of the students who participated in the competition were 60-second videos recorded of their scientific tests.

The first and second rounds of the competition were held respectively in 2015 and 2016.

The next round of the competition will be running in recognition of the Jordanian Professor Omar Yaghi for his works on nanotechnology.

MSTF, as the host, is founded with the purpose of creating and strengthening links among scientists and academicians of the Muslim countries across the world.

It is also the organizer of Mustafa Prize which is given to notable scientists from across the Islamic world.
