Call for 4th round of Noor competition ends: Over 2000 students to vie
The deadline to submit works to the 4th round of Noor school student competition, in recognition of Prof. Omar Yaghi, expired and 2409 students from 6 countries participated in this round of the competition.

The 4th round of Noor school student competition, in recognition of Prof. Omar Yaghi who was the 2015 Mustafa
Prize laureate, began in August last year. The deadline for submitting works continued until May 20, 2020; however, due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the absence of students in schools, the deadline was extended to late August 2020, and special measures were also adopted for this round of the competition.
Familial registration (the enrolment of the students and their families) was conducted from May 21, 2020 in compliance with medical advice and healthcare guidelines proposed by the WHO and I. R. I. Ministry of Health and Medical Education, which include social distancing and dispersal of gatherings. Any student, as the head of the team, could participate in the competition from home along with his/her family members.
Among other features of this round was the display of various scientific ideas apropos of the competition subjects under the Scientific Guide section of Noor competition webpage. These ideas were continuously introduced to the participating students daily and were considered to be feasible at home.
Spreading throughout the world, the Coronavirus pandemic has enormously influenced people’s lives; yet, a significant number of school students participated in this round of Noor competition and works from some other countries were submitted to the secretariat of this competition.
Two-thousand four hundred and nine students in 1087 teams participated in this round of Noor competition, submitting 691 video clips to the secretariat. These participants are students from six countries, including Morocco, Algeria, Malaysia, India, Afghanistan, and Iran.
Noor school student competition is held annually as one of the events organized by the Mustafa
Science and Technology foundation (MSTF). It aims to have a role in motivating the young generation of the Islamic world, broadening new technological and scientific horizons, and helping to encourage the growth of prodigious talents. The 4th round of Noor competition, in recognition of Prof. Omar Yaghi who was the 2015 Mustafa
Prize laureate, began in August last year. The subject of this round encompassed various areas of material and energy. The students compete in producing one-minute scientific video clips of their experiments.
Each round of Noor competition is named after one of the eminent scholars of the world. The first round of this event was held in 2015 on the subject of “optics” commemorating Ibn al-Haytham, the renowned scholar of the Islamic world, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of his authoring ‘The Book of Optics’. More than 4000 school students nationwide took part in the 1st round of the competition and 1650 video clips were submitted in different areas of science and applications of light where 200 works were honored ultimately.
The 2nd round was held in 2016, in recognition of Prof. Jackie Ying who was also the 2015 Mustafa
Prize laureate. This round included different areas of science such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Astronomy, and/or a combination of sciences, wherein more than 5000 school students participated and 2000 one-minute video clips on scientific experiments were submitted to the competition secretariat from which 100 student teams were selected and praised
The 3rd round of Noor competition, in commemoration of Ibn al-Razaz al-Jazari, was held on robotics. Al-Jazari was one of the most influential scientists in robotics and, undoubtedly, the founder of mechanical engineering in the world. The subject of this round was dynamic mechanisms and other experiments in various topics of mechanics. For the 3rd round of Noor competition, 5122 school students in 2183 teams registered and 1733 video clips were sent to the secretariat. Finally, on the closing day, 100 teams were selected and honored.
