COVID-19 demands integration of scientists, NGOs, governments

Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) pointed up the importance of a move towards greater integration among scientists, NGOs, and the governments in the Islamic countries during the Coronavirus pandemic.
MSTF Media reports:
Faridul Alam, Professor of Nuclear Medicine from Bangladesh, in an interview with the MSTF stated that the fulfilment of collaboration among scientists “depends actually upon the political will of the countries.”
He said when “big global disasters” such as the current pandemic strike, the governments, NGOs, and scientists must all come together in order to undertake crucial research projects and produce the desired outputs expeditiously.
Endorsing the 7th Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) as a major initiative on COVID-19 crisis, he said “any goodwill initiative will have some good results. I hope the fruits of STEP 7 meeting help us to beat Coronavirus.”
“STEP meetings increase the communication among the scientists of the Islamic world– especially the developing countries,” he added.
Alam also raised the issue of scientific leadership, maintaining that so far the Islamic countries have done “a great job” in tackling this virus; however, scientific leadership is conspicuously absent in the Muslim world.
He suggested providing the scientists with more forums through which further scientific activities and coordinated research take place.
“The affiliated people, foundations, and countries can contribute to these forums,” he remarked.
Faridul Alam is a member of many national and international scientific associations. He has held several top positions during his brilliant career. Alam gave a presentation on “medical community initiative in Bangladesh in response to COVID-19” during the 7th STEP held virtually in May 2020.
