Trial of traditional medicine for COVID-19 at ICCBS announced successful

A 2021 Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize laureate from Islamic countries has recently said that the clinical trial of a Chinese traditional medicine on COVID-19 patients demonstrates promising results.

MSTF Media reports:

Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and a 2021 Mustafa Prize laureate  from Islamic countries for “Discovery of fascinating molecules with therapeutic applications,” has announced the completion of a successful trial of a Chinese traditional herbal medicine on 300 patients.

According to Reuters, the Chinese medicine Jinhua Qinggan Granules (JHQG) manufactured by Juxiechang (Beijing) pharmaceutical Co Ltd, is already being used for treating COVID-19 patients in China.

Regarding the effectiveness of this traditional medicine on Omicron variant of COVID-19, Choudhary said “Since it was tried on patients with different variants of COVID-19, we expect it to be effective on Omicron as on other variants.”

The trials of this traditional medicine in Pakistan were conducted on patients who were treated at home, and would work on mild to moderate COVID-19 cases, said the principal investigator in the trials Dr. Raza Shah, adding that the efficacy rate was around 82.67%.

The trials of this traditional medicine were approved by the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan.

These days, the South Asian nation is entering a fifth wave of the pandemic driven by the Omicron variant. Pakistan reported 4,340 COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest recorded in a 24-hour period in three months. Karachi, the country’s largest city, recorded a positivity rate ─the percentage of tests coming back positive─ of 39.39% at the weekend, the highest so far.

“In the last seven days, COVID cases in Pakistan have increased by 170% while deaths have also increased by 62%,” the National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) said on Monday.
