The unveiling ceremony of the busts of the five laureates of the 4th Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize was held on the evening of Saturday, December 15, at Pardis Technology Park.
MSTF Media reports:
Mehdi Safarinia, CEO of Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation and head of Pardis Technology Park, Gousal Azam Sarker, Ambassador of Bangladesh in Iran, and Mohammad Hosein Hoseinzadeh, CEO of Gharzolhasaneh Resalat Bank gave speeches during this ceremony.
According to Safarinia, “Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation’s mission is to increase the synergy and capacity of those active in the realm of science, technology, and innovation in the Islamic countries, thus playing an effective role in the realization of the new Islamic civilization.”
“This foundation honors the prominent figures of science and technology who have expanded the borders of science with the goal of promoting public welfare and who play a valuable role in society by granting them the international Mustafa Prize as one of the symbols of merit and excellence in science and technology on an international level,” he added.
Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation began its activities with the prospect of spreading peace, security, and welfare of humanity and has as its duty the promotion of science and technology in the Islamic World.
Safarinia deemed the symbolization of the Islamic World’s prominent scientists as important, stating that it has a tremendous impact on making the greatest of science and technology into role models in society.
“Creating busts of the laureates of Mustafa Prize and installing them around the city as symbols have been on the foundation’s agenda since day one of granting this award. Subsequent to the 4th Mustafa Prize ceremony, today we witness the unveiling of the busts of the 5 laureates of the 4th Mustafa Prize,” he said.
According to the CEO of MSTF, “Considering the fact that Pardis Technology Park is visited by numerous people from inside and outside the country, this attempt leads to the appreciation of scientists, introducing the scientific and technological capacities and capabilities of our country to the world, and also establishing friendly, close, and stable relations with other countries, particularly in terms of science and technology.”
“So far, the busts of 16 prominent scientific figures from 9 countries have been installed in the Scientists’ Park of Pardis Technology Park, and it is hoped that this move will be a measure to honor the fruitful scientific deeds of these people,” Safarinia concluded.
Following Safarinia’s speech, a documentary along with the video message of the Mustafa Prize laureates was played to the audience. Then, the guests attended the Scientists’ Park for the unveiling of the busts.
The five laureates of this round of the Mustafa Prize are Professor Zahid Hasan, Professor Cumrun Vafa, Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Professor Mohamed El. Sayegh, and Professor Yahya Tayalati.
Now, thanks to the pioneering works of Professor Zahid Hasan and other pioneers in this field, topological physics is really progressing. According to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Hasan's experiments, with more than 50,000 references, have played a fundamental role in the emergence of the field of topological quantum matter, a field that in relation to condensed matter physics, material engineering, nanoscience, device physics, chemistry and relativistic quantum field theory is experiencing very rapid growth."
Professor Hasan received the 2021 Mustafa Prize in the field of quantum physics for his great work, “Weyl fermion semimetals.”
In 2018, Professor Cumrun Vafa was officially appointed the Hollis Professor of Mathematicks and Natural Philosophy in the Physics Department at Harvard University. The Hollis Professorship of Mathematicks and Natural Philosophy which was established in 1727 is the second oldest chair at Harvard and the oldest chair in science in all of the United States. Prof. Vafa is the 15th holder of this professorship in its more than 300 years of history.
Professor M. Iqbal Choudhary is a Professor of Natural Products and Bioorganic Chemistry. Since 2002, He has been the head at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) which has been named the developing world’s finest research center for chemistry and biology. Prof. Choudhary has written above 1000 scientific articles and has registered 57 international patents.
Professor Choudhary is one of the 2021 Mustafa Prize Laureates from Islamic Countries for his great work, “Discovery of fascinating molecules with therapeutic applications” in the field of Bio-organic Chemistry.
Professor Mohamed Sayegh taught at Harvard Medical School from 1990 to 2009, during which time he was promoted to the rank of full professor of medicine and was endowed a chair in transplantation medicine. In July 2009, Professor Sayegh returned to his alma mater, the American University of Beirut, as Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Professor Sayegh is one of the 2021 Mustafa Prize Laureates from Islamic Countries for his great work, “Novel Therapies to Improve Renal and Cardiac Allograft Outcomes,” in the field of medicine.
One of the recent achievements of Professor Yahya Tayalati and his colleagues in ATLAS collaboration was the observation of Light-by-light (LbyL) scattering for the first time in 2019. The LbyL scattering is an extremely rare process which makes its measurement very difficult and inaccessible.
Professor Tayalati was one of the 2021 Mustafa Prize Laureates from Islamic Countries for his great work, “Observation of the Light by Light Scattering and the Search for Magnetic Monopoles” in the field of Theoretical and Particle Physics.
