MSTF Media reports:

The Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation, held the second Mustafa Prize Science Café on July 19, 2021 on the subject of climate change with the virtual attendance of many enthusiasts from around the world.

Amit Banka, Founder of WeNaturalists organization, science communicator, and climate change activist from India delivered a speech on the taken actions, obstacles, and solutions facing climate change and answered questions from the audience concerning their environmental activities.

He talked about the effect of climate change on food security, on wellbeing of humans, and on biodiversity. Moreover, the issue of sea level rise and its repelling impact on people’s lives was discussed during the meeting.

He pointed out that if everyone believed in the same cause, it’d have been great in taking stronger steps towards dealing with climate change, but unfortunately “awareness” is missing.

“Awareness creation has to be global,” he continued, adding that education and awareness programs regarding climate change has to start from grassroots.

He also highlighted the necessity of embedding such programs in students’ curriculum all over the world.

Banka emphasized that bringing small changes into daily life such as avoiding overconsumption, saving electricity, saving water, and using less plastic bags will contribute to the nature.

There are many NGOs in countries such as Nigeria which are active in the sphere of environmental issues, but they do not get enough funding for doing projects, he said.

Pointing to the need for a “collective effort” for climate change, he said “the time to take action is now and today.”

Science Café meetings aim to analyze and discuss the top trending scientific topics. Believing that exchanging views on the present-day scientific issues is of high importance, the organizers of these meetings follow the objective of enhancing the skill and culture of scientific discussion which leads to constructive interactions in society.
