Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize laureate to discuss energy consumption by ICT
Sami Erol Gelenbe, a 2017 Mustafa(Pbuh) Prize laureate will give a speech during the webinar “Energy Consumption by ICT: Facts and Challenges” on April 18, 2022.

Science and Technology Foundation, Erol Gelenbe will explore the role of information and communications technology (ICT) in energy consumption which has been a topic of interest for decades. A report from 2018 by The Nature suggests, “Electricity use by ICT could exceed 20% of the global total” in a decade. Some studies have also predicted an acceleration in electricity demand by ICT in the 2020s.
Sami Erol Gelenbe is a professor in the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He won the Mustafa Prize in 2017 for inventing the random neural network and the eponymous G-networks. Gelenbe is known for pioneering the field of modelling and performance evaluation of computer systems and networks throughout Europe.
