Professor Jackie Ying, a distinguished figure in the field of nanotechnology, has been appointed as the head of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Basic and Engineering Sciences Committee.
MSTF Media reports:
The 58-year-old scientist who holds a B.A. from The Cooper Union and an M.A. and a PhD from Princeton University has been recognized as a leading expert in nanotechnology for many years. In 1992, at the age of 35, she became a full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT, making her one of the youngest faculty members in the university's history.
Professor Ying's groundbreaking research in nanotechnology has earned her numerous prestigious awards. In 2015, she received the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize for “the synthesis of well-designed advanced nanostructured materials and systems, nanostructured biomaterials and miniaturized bio-systems of various interesting applications including the development of ‘stimuli-responsive polymeric nanoparticles’ for diabetic patients.” Additionally, she received the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Academy Prize and Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal Prize, both of which are highly esteemed scientific accolades in their respective countries.
Her awards also include the American Ceramic Society's Ross C. Purdy Award, the Wall Street Journal's Asian Innovation Award, and the Brunei Crown Prince Grand Prize for Creative and Innovative Product and Technological Advancement. From 2012 to 2015, Ying was selected as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the world, and in 2014, she was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame.
As the newly appointed leader of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Basic and Engineering Sciences Committee, Professor Ying is tasked with assessing scientific contributions from researchers nominated by top institutes and universities in the Muslim world. The committee has previously evaluated the works of notable scientists such as Omar Yaghi, Cumrun Vafa, and Zahid Hasan.
